Rolf Jardemark

A top guitarist from Sweden, Rolf Jardemark is a versatile player with a long series of recordings for the Imogena label. Jardemark started on guitar when he was 12. ”I bought my first guitar from a friend for one dollar! I had no teacher. I started with a blues record and a chord book.” Inspired by Barney Kessel, Larry Carlton and Pat Metheny, Jardemark also learned about jazz from Peter Almqvist when they both worked in a guitar store.

Jardemark went to music college when he was 16 and after that went on to The Academy of Music in Gothenburg - studying classical guitar but playing jazz at night. Jardemark has played with the Swedish artists Margaretha Evmark and Erik Gullbransson since the mid-80s, toured Scandinavia with pianist-singer Michael Ruff in 1987, worked with the Bohuslän Big Band and had his own group since 1989. He has also worked with Nils Landgren, Lars Danielsson, Al Harewood, Bob Mintzer, Lew Soloff and James Morrison. (from Scott Yanow – The Great Jazz Guitarists).

November, 2017 review from the New York City Jazz Record by Scott Yanow

Cosmology (Guitarlandrecords)

Cosmology, which teams Stowell with fellow guitarist Rolf Jardemark (with bassist Peter Janson added on two of the ten numbers), is a bit more conventional and straight-ahead oriented without ever sounding predictable. One feels the presence of Joe Pass more than Jim Hall on this project with the improvising being more boppish. Jardemark, who released the CD on his own label in his native Sweden, and Stowell split the program between standards and originals. The guitarists begin with Jardemark’s joyful jazz waltz “Margot’s Vals” which swings well with the bassist making the group a trio

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
