Santy Roque Medina

Santy Roque Medina completed his music studies at the Real conservatorium of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Classical direction) 1976-1985, continuing on to studies at the Las palmas Jazz Academy Main Subject: Guitar and Harmony.During those years he played in different ensembles from Salsa to big bands, and also accompanied famous singers.

In the years 1986-1987 he underwent formal instruction at the Dutch Hilversum Conservatorium by (Wim Overgauw). He moved to Madrid in 1987, to play with other musicians and to undergo new musical infuences as Jorge Pardo Group,Ruben Dantas Group,etc..and formed his own group Santy Roque Cuartet. He performed on TVE Jazz Entre Amigos, a program concentrating on the developments of jazz music in Spain.

He also enrolled in a masterclass of Berklee College of Music in Madrid given by Gary Burton. Besides playing with his own group and others ones as well he was an accompanist on tv-shows with singers such as: Nana Mouskouri, Dyango, Moncho, Julio Iglesias, Nikola di Bari etc...

For the third Festival International de jazz Santy made a new formation called “Roque Brother”. They toured around the whole archipielago together with musicians like: Stanley Jordan and others,while playing their own compositions.

In 1990 he moved to the Netherlands and settled down in Boskoop. Here he got the chance to compose his own material and to get impressions and interpretations of the Dutch musicians.
