Scott Abrahamson

Based in New England, Scott Abrahamson is an accomplished performer, educator, and music industry businessman. Both a classically and jazz trained trumpeter, Scott demonstrates great versatility in a range of styles, and has performed extensively throughout the East Coast. He has also performed in the Mid-West, Canada, and Europe. To the latter, he performed at the North Sea and Montreux International Jazz Festivals in 1993. As a freelance musician in Southern New England, Scott has enjoyed enduring success in jazz combos, sacred music, big bands, chamber ensembles, and in pit orchestras. A past member of the Ocean State Pops Orchestra, Lakeside Brass, and Kindred Brass, Scott now performs with Intrepid Brass & Greenwich Bay Brass, and is having an absolute blast performing with his buddies in the DCAF Jazz Quartet! Scott is an artist and clinician for XO Professional Brass, a leading manufacturer of professional grade instruments. He performs exclusively on the XO 1602S and 1624S trumpets as well as on the XO 1646RL flugelhorn.

Credentials/Background

As a music educator, Scott enjoyed a long tenure as a very successful middle and high school band director. Under his baton, his bands and jazz ensembles continuously earned superior ratings at state level band festivals as well as top honors at regional festivals. Scott also worked in education at the district adminstrative level as a director of fine arts, and has served as an adjunct professor of music at Bay State College and Fisher College. Scott is now on the team at one of New England's most respected music retailers as Director of Education. It is there that he oversees all outreach music education programs including teacher mentoring and professional development as well as create opportunities for clinicians and artist-in-residence programs. Twice awarded a Governor's Citation for Teaching Excellence, Scott has been proud to have had private studio students who consistently achieved highest rankings in festivals and contests. He has written numerous articles which have been published in many music educator journals and music industry magazines, and remains a dynamic and respected clinician and adjudicator throughout the region. Scott's professional affiliations include the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), The National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA), the Rhode Island Music Educators Association (RIMEA), the National Association of School Music Dealers (NASMD) and NAMM.
