Sergey Chashkin

Sergey Chashkin was born on July 1985 in Russia,Yekaterinburg. He started playing guitar at the age of 15 and also started taking private guitar lessons; it gave him a good classical and theoretical basis. Then, after playing rock and blues for few years, Sergey started listening to jazz that totally changed his attitude towards music. He entered in the huge world of jazz and improvisation listening the recordings of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Wes Montgomery. At the age of 18 Sergey Chashkin went to study in College of Music of P.I. Chaykovsky, in Russia. He studied traditional and jazz harmony, history of jazz, arrangement, orchestration, jazz improvisation with great musicians such as Vilaliy Vladimirov, Valiriy Kutsanov, Sergey Pron’. He played for one year and recorded with Jazz Big Band of the College, conducted by great trombone player and arranger Vitaliy Vladimirov. At the age of 20 Sergey decided to move to Israel to study Jazz Performance (guitar) in Rimon, School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. He studied with some of the great teachers in Israel: Yossi Levi, Ronen Raban, Mamelo Gitanopolos, Rami Levin, Guri Agmon, Shay Chen, Erez Barnoy, Gil Ladin, Eli Benakot, Arie Volnits and many more. Sergey also had a great opportunity to teach guitar in Bama Schlool of Music in Raanana and in Conservatorion in Netaniya. It gave him some pedagogical experience. Sergey graduated from Rimon in 2008, at the age of 22.

During the summer of ’08, he attended the Berklee-Rimon Workshops in Eilat, Israel. Sergey played there in the ensemble of Dennis Montgomery, and after playing several gigs, jam sessions and auditions, he received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music. Then Sergey Chashkin came back to Russia, where he continued playing with the Jazz Big Band, and formed a Jazz Quartet of by own. There Sergey became a member of a very famous Jazz Club in Russia, called Ever Jazz, where he played as a sideman and with his own Quartet.

Sergey arrived to Berklee in Fall ’09 and enrolled to performance major.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music in May ’11(performance major), Sergey moved to New York.

In 2014 Sergey recorded his debut album of original music Personal Choice.

1-st Prize in International Jazz Competition in Rostov-na-Dony(2013).
