Shane Porter
Mr. Porter has been a professional performer on trumpet and piano since before graduating high school. He stepped on stage with one of Motown’s most famous groups, The Four Tops, in April of 1990, one month before crossing the high school graduation stage. He has become one of the top call trumpet players in the United States since that day.
In 1991, Shane moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he became the assistant music minister and staff arranger for one of Jacksonville’s largest churches, New Life Christian Fellowship. In 1993, He returned to his hometown of Tuscaloosa to pursue his Compositions and Jazz Studies degree at the University of Alabama while also becoming the one of the main touring trumpet players for the Temptations. In 1999, at age 27, Shane was the youngest musician to be inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame list of Music Achievers. In 2009, Shane (along with the Tuscaloosa Horns) received the “Druid City Arts Award” for Musicians of the Year!
His performance experience has literally taken him all over the world and allowed him to be on stage with internationally known artists from jazz to rock-n-roll. He has performed with legends of the jazz world such as “Doc” Severinsen, “Dizzy” Gillespie, Arturo Sandoval, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Lou Soloff (from Blood, Sweat and Tears), Wycliffe Gordon & Wynton Marsalis of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. His touring with the Temptations and The Four Tops opened the door to Shane’s performing with other groups/musicians such as the Supremes, The Marvalettes, The Spinners and Little Anthony & The Imperials. Shane performed as lead trumpet on Stevie Wonder’s final tour in 1997
