Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson
Sigurdur picked up the guitar for the first time at the age of 10 and quickly started playing rock and blues music. He then moved on to play the music of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Guns n´Roses. Learning there music and guitar solos by listening and mimicking. At the age of 14 he was actively playing in dance bands with much older musicians in his hometown of Budardalur, Iceland. He had to get a special permit from the mayor of the town to perform under-age at these dances.
At the age of 15 Rögnvaldsson moved to Reykjavik and started studying music at the FIH school of Music where his interest in studying and listening to jazz grew. He studied among others with avant-garde guitarist Hilmar Jensson and jazz saxophonist Sigurdur Flosason.
At the age of 24 Rögnvaldsson moved to Sweden to study jazz performance, first at the Academy of Music in Gothenburg and further at the Royal Collage of Music in Stockholm. After graduating with Masters degree in jazz performance he moved to Helsinki, Finland.
