Sónia "Little B" Cabrita. 1978, Lisbon. Portugal. Musician and teacher. Drums, cajón and vibes.

In addition to my "Little B" combo I play drums in Viviane's support band; a portuguese main stream act. Beside that, I'm flaJAZZados' former member; a native spoken word jazz outfit which is in turn Zé Eduardo's [portuguese jazz guru] side project. With the mentioned groups I've toured and played at some of the most weighty domestic pop and jazz festivals and did a few dates in Spain as well; Sedajazz International Festival, Sons do Atlântico Festival, Sines em Jazz Festival, Med Festival, Valado dos Frades Jazz Festival, Lagos Jazz Festival, Montemor-o-Novo Jazz Festival, Almodôvar Jazz Festival, Jazz no Inverno Festival and at Lisbon's Fábrica de Braço de Prata. Performed at New York City's “CBGB”, at Baltimore's “An Die Musik” and at Macau Jazz Festival in China with “Zé Eduardo Unit”. I had also the privilege of playing with Greg Tardy and with David Murray and Peter King here in Portugal. Meanwhile I get to work regularly with local and spanish musicians, covering Algarve's and Spain clubs ,bars and Jazz Festivals circuit. Taught drums at Sines Art School, since its inauguration [2008-2010] and give private drum lessons at my studio in Faro and in Colegio Bernardette Romeira (private school) [Portugal] too. I've studied drums with professor Michael Lauren [ESMAE] and I have attended several jazz seminars, workshops and masterclasses around Portugal and Spain: Terrie Lyne Carrington [Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Dianne Reeves], Jordi Rossy [Brad Mehldau, Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz], Gerald Cleaver [Miroslav Vitous, William Parker, Jeremy Pelt], Frank Tiberi [Woody Herman Orchestra, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman], Doug Weiss [Clifford Jordan, Lee Konitz, Joe Williams], Billy Drummond [Joe Henderson, Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins] e Nasheet Waits [Greg Osby, Joshua Redman, Joe Lovano]... A short retrospective. I've started my music and drums studies in 1994 at Associação Filarmónica de Faro [AFF] with professor Joaquim Furtado and I have been hitting & beating since then. Formed and been former member with a handful of groups, won some national musical contests and got my share of media coverage as new-comer. With some of these bands I got to share the stage with relevant domestic and international artists. From 2000 to 2002 I studied at Barreiro's Jazz School. In 2002 played at Lisbon's First Festa do Jazz do São Luiz, a significant annual portuguese jazz rendezvous and I've been "K's Choice", drummer for-one-day as a national broadcast radio station [RTP Antena 3] contest winner.

I've lived in Barcelona [ES] during 2007 to attend “Taller de Musics” Jazz School and had lessons with professors Ramon Angel Ray, drums and Cristina Canet, music theory. During this particular period I had the opportunity of working with some local acts and did a few gigs at Barcelona's club circuit. Foot note. In 2008 I did a small tour in the beautiful Cape Verde Islands [Africa] with the Montargil Philharmonic Orchestra which ended at 7 Sóis 7 Luas [7 Suns 7 Moons] Music Festival. Unforgettable. In April 2012 I released my first cd with tunes composed by me.
