Susanna Aleksandra and Joonas Haavisto started working together in 2018. They share a common vision in giving music multiple layers by uniting complex harmonies and forms with meaningful lyrics and strong melodies. For Susanna and Joonas it is important to allow the music to dictate where it wants to go: sometimes it chooses a simple path and sometimes a more complex one, allowing the music to be honest and versatile. Susanna and Joonas are influenced by many styles including traditional and modern jazz, classical, popular, and folk music. These influences can be noticed in this album but are unified under the modern jazz umbrella, the stylistic choices of the musicians, and the fantastic ensemble playing. The songs written by Joonas Haavisto are challenging the typical singer role in the band. He has created melodies that are more instrumental and by doing so, he is making the singer an equal to the instrumentalists. Susanna’s lyrics to his song depict the feelings that arose from the musical language of his piano playing and joint experiences. The music written by Susanna Aleksandra is inspired by many life situations and musical ideas. All of them, however, share the common story of personal growth, and honesty. Under a simple shell, Susanna hides clever momentums, time signatures, and modern harmonies, giving the audience something relatable and interesting at the same time.
