The Staines/Tanzi Duo

The Staines/Tanzi duo are a jazz duo featuring Oliver J. Staines (guitar) and Cris Tanzi (vocals). Having both worked as professional musicians for over ten years in a variety of settings and genres they have come together to blend their individual voices into something new in the creative space of the duo setting. You can catch the duo doing gigs in their own right or otherwise being hired to provide a rich setting for private or corporate events. They primarily perform the American Songbook and latin jazz standards but their entertaining performances often also feature treatments of more contemporary and popular pieces. The Staines/Tanzi duo can cater for all kinds of events, from weddings and private parties to providing atmospheric entertainmnet for restaurants and social environments or conferences and corporate functions. If the setting requires they can perform as part of a larger ensemble, as a trio with the addition of talented bass player Alex Scaturro, or even as a jazz quartet. Cris Tanzi has made quite a name for herself as an up and coming talent on the London music scene. Best known for her performances of her own songs she’s been a featured artist on the Mercedes Benz Podcast 2007 and overplay.com. She got into singing jazz when guitar virtuoso Carl Orr heard her once and said she’d sound great singing standards. She gave it a try and hasn’t looked back since. She’s now gaining credit as an accomplished performer in the genre.

Oliver J. Staines graduated from Middlesex University’s well established jazz department with an honours degree in jazz studies in 2000. Since then he’s been active on the London music scene as a performing and recording musician and also in the areas of teaching, composition. Always one to challenge himself further, he obtained his masters in music in 2006. Though he is proficient in most styles of guitar from classical to blues he’s here doing what he likes and does best...” jazz.

Alex Scaturro came from Italy in 1995 to study at the London Musicians’ Institute. Based on the firm grounding he obtained there he has set himself up as a truly versatile and accomplished musician. He has engaged in an eclectic range of projects which include working as a composer for the commercial music label Seecarecords.
