Album Description

The first eight pieces on "Stretching Time" focus on the art of free improvisation and were all recorded within the past year. Our improvs are usually just a few minutes long and each one establishes a different frame of reference and overall form. I'm playing C flute & bass flute on these, joined by other top local musicians. The final three tracks are previously unreleased recordings of works I wrote and recorded in the late '70s and early '80s and are good examples of my "Third Stream" style (synthesis of jazz & classical genres). I continue to compose in this style, as well as perform with free improv musicians here in St. Louis. My YouTube videos focus exclusively on free improv., so for a broader sampling of my music, I'd recommend visiting my Bandcamp site: or my main site: and click on "listen".

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
