Sukyung Kim is a pianist and composer from Korea, now based in Brooklyn, NY. She began studying classical piano at the age of 4. She continued her studies in classical piano and composition at SUNY Binghamton. After learning an extensive repertoire, she moved to New York City to be involved in the NYC jazz scene. She completed graduate studies in jazz performance at New York University, studying privately with Kevin Hays, Alan Broadbent, Drew Gress, and Ari Hoenig. “The balance of sophistication and creativity Sukyung Kim demonstrates on Lilac Hill is of a rare kind, regardless of
this being her debut offering. A gifted composer and engaging pianist, Kim proves she has what it takes to become
an important voice in the contemporary jazz scene.”
