TerenceHsieh
In 2006 and 2007, Hsieh was chosen to play lead trombone at the University of Carolina at Greensboro’s Honors High School Jazz clinic, under the tutelage of bassist Steve Haines. There, he met the clinician, who is his current teacher and mentor, Robin Eubanks. Hsieh has also studied over the years with greats such as Maria Schneider, Mike Murley, Marcus Roberts, and Vincent Gardner. He cites JJ Johnson, Vincent Gardner, and Robin Eubanks as his greatest influences. Most recently, Hsieh planned, secured over $10,000 of funding for, and led his sextet, the Terry Hsieh Collective, on a five-week and three-week tour of Beijng, China in the Winter of 2010 and 2011. Hsieh is also an avid composer: he has written extensive arrangements for his sextet, the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble, and his trio.
