THE BRASS GROUP

The Sicilian Jazz Orchestra in Italy is the first and only permanent jazz orchestra with public participation. Founded by Ignatius Garsia in the early 70s as the Brass Group Big Band, the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra has played an intense and continuous concert activities under the guidance of some of the most prestigious conductors of the world.

In 1990 the O.J.S. was the cornerstone of the "International Review of Soul Music" in Palermo and in 1991 he performed in the first European, "Epitaph" by Charles Mingus, under the direction of Gunther Schuller. While, for the execution of pages of contemporary repertoire, the OJS has participated in the show in '94 Sounds of the twentieth century promoted by the E. A. Teatro Massimo in Palermo and in the same year, directed by Clark Terry, the ensemble opened the Summer Concert Season with a concert dedicated to Duke Ellington on the twentieth anniversary of the disappearance.

In February 1996, at the invitation of the Italian Society for the Study of African American Music, the OJS inaugurated the exhibition "The Cultured Music Afro- American", with the world premiere live transcription of the suite "Porgy And Bess" by George Gershwin / Gil Evans, again conducted by Gunther Schuller, soloist Paolo Fresu.

Giuseppe Costa, Vito Giordano, Anthony Pedone, Peter Pedestrian, Fabio Riina, Domenico Riina, Salvatore Pizzo and Savior Pizzurro for over 20 years have ensured an orchestral sound characterized by an own sound and recognizable figure. They were joined by Gaetano Agro, Silvio Barbara, Valerio Barrale, Salvatore Bonafede, Francesco Hillbilly, Sergio Cammalleri, Rita Collura, Stefano D'Anna, Gianni Gebbia, Massimo Greek, Greek Pino, Mimmo La Mantia, Francesco Marchese, Orazio Maugeri, Sergio Munafò, Salvatore Nania, Riccardo Randisi, Mauro Schiavone, Gaetano Tucci, Giuseppe Urso .. www.thebrassgroup.it/?idp=228
