Tilman Herpichboehm

Tilman Herpichböhm, born in Augsburg, Germany, and raised on music, took his first drum lessons with Heiko Tuch at the age of seven. He soon became a member of the renowned kids-drum-ensemble "Die Trommelkinder", with which he performed in a lot of concerts on stage and on the radio both locally and abroad.

At quite an early age he gained experience in the rock/pop business with, for example, the locally high-flying group "Tilly And The Wild Boys", which enthu sed audiences for more than eight years with their sixties-orientated original compositions and a Hammond organ. At that time they also produced two studio albums.

Parallel to this, Tilman Herpichböhm was developing as a versified jazz- drummer. This included a myriad of gigs within the whole spectrum of these stylistics.

In 2006 he took up his academic studies of jazz-drumset at the Nuremberg School of Music (Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg) with Hans-Günter Brod mann and Johannes Nied. In his diploma thesis he researched bohemian play ing methods and the adaption of acoustic effect percussions on the drumset. This work reflects his interests in the everlasting search for innovative sounds on his instrument.

In his engagement in 2009 at the Stadttheater Augsburg he was able to apply and display these special skills in the modern interpretation of the Greek tra gedy "Helena".

His graduation concert in the summer of 2010 was dedicated to the saxopho nist and composer John Zorn, and especially to Zorn’s group "Masada". Tilman Herpichböhm graduated with summa cum laude and since then has been attending classes leading to a master’s at the Nuremberg School of Music (HfM Nürnberg).

In May 2011 the album "Lebensweisheiten" by Mannheim’s humor-jazzgroup "Ohropack" – his brother Jonas Herpichböhm’s main-projekt – was released in the course of a four-week-tour through Germany. January 2012 Tilman Herpichböhm won the Bruno-Rother-Stipendium of the Rotary-Club Nuremberg-Fürth in a duo with Saxophonist Johannes Ludwig and in March 2012 the first German Place at the Jazz Prix in Straubing with "Ohropack". Tilman’s quartet Jilman Zilman published their debut-album in May 2012 with Nuremberg’s Label Label11 in the collector’s serie "Edition Metropolmusik". During a eight-day-tour through southern Germany the CD has been success fully released.
