Album Description

Tin Pan Alley Vol. 2 is a mix of songs from the 1920s-1930s in the Western Swing, Latin and Jazz Age pop genres sung in English, German and Spanish, all in an Australian accent. They are all songs written or significantly popular in the 1920s-30s. Greg Poppleton is a 1920s – 1930s-style singer and bandleader whose vocals have been called “uncannily authentic” by critics. When he was 3, he saw Louis Armstrong on TV and was hooked on the music. He plays clubs, restaurants, balls, hotels and festivals. Amapola is a slow Latin dance song written 100 years ago this year. It's my Australian accented homage to the Lecuona Cuban Boys. I sing the 1st chorus in Spanish, the 2nd chorus in Australian English. A dance couple always request this song when we play live. It's a joy to watch them rhumba at son tempo. Corrine Corrina is inspired by the 1929 Red Nichols recording. La Paloma is inspired by Hans Albers, Sugar by Lee Wiley, You Are My Sunshine by a fan with Down Syndrome, San Antonio Rose by Roger Janes, Sweet Sue by the Hot Club of France, St Louis Blues by Helen Forrest, Carolina in the Morning by Marion Harris. Six songs on the album are by the vocal, guitar/banjo and washboard trio with tp/tb added on the Western Swing takes. Three tracks are remixed outtakes of the six-piece band from earlier recordings. Greg’s back catalogue of 7 albums has been played on commercial and community radio in Australia, the UK, & the US. Greg appears in the movies Moulin Rouge! & Chronicles of Narnia Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
