Regularly performing across the South East in various duo's, jazz orchestras, rock and jazz projects, function bands, theatre productions and also as a solo performer, Tom is a versatile player having played within many genres and settings including jazz, funk, rock, soul, fusion and classical, performing in many well known venues for a variety of clients across the UK and Europe.
Tom is also a graduate from the Academy of Contemporary Music. He also masters degree in music from the University of Surrey, and has also recently completed a PhD in the cognitive strategies of contemporary jazz improvisers. Academically, Tom's research interests include: development of contemporary guitar styles, improvisational strategy, cognition and muisc, post 1960s jazz styles, analysis methodologies, development of electric guitar styles, jazz in film music, history and development of jazz styles, and various aspects of world music. In addition Tom has studied guitar with Mike Outram, Giorgio Serci, Dave Holmes, Dave Kilminster among others.
Tom has been teaching guitar for a over a decade. In this time he has built up a reputation for excellence and is often commended on his professionalism, expert subject knowledge and personality. He has worked for various peripatetic companies and music services and privately, providing music lessons in schools, institutions, universities and privately. More recently Tom has held a full time post lecturing at Academy of Contemporary Music in addition to working as an associate for other UK higher education music departments. He has taught of students of all ages and abilities, some of which have now been accepted into the UK's leading music conservatoires and colleges and hold teaching qualifications and positions of their own.
