Torben Rees

Torben began singing at the age of 17, when joining the youth swing jazz band Just in Time first as trumpeter and then as lead male vocalist. During his years as a student in Cambridge he developed his skills as a singer and songwriter playing shows around Cambridge and across the UK with the Park Lane Big Band. Going from strength to strength in jazz Torben has just completed his new jazz album demo "Give Me A Break!" recorded with rising piano star Tim Lapthorn, amongst other great players. He has worked with several star musicians recently including: Ian Shaw (masterclass at the 606), Matt Dusk (impromptu guest appearance at Ronnie Scott's) and Steve Rubie (jamming at the 606). He works as a wedding singer in Cambridge, London, Oxford, Bath and Bristol with his own function band and is available for hire.

"Torben Rees writes songs informed by the Songbook Greats. They are fresh and contemporary, yet keep the listener safely inside the "jazz" arena. Oh..and he sings a storm as well, scatting, swinging and swooping with the best, in a clearly intoned tenor croon. Great stuff"

Ian Shaw - BBC Jazz Vocalist of the year 2004 & 2007
