Album Description

A new audiophile album of original songs from pianist, composer, improviser Russ Lossing. Release date: October 5, 2020 on Aqua Piazza Records. CD/Download Russ Lossing composed two song cycles, 10 songs in all, based on the minimalistic poems of legendary Zen Masters Ryōkan Taigu and Dōgan Zenji, monks from the 18th & 13th Century, respectively. TRACES is comprised of two sets of five songs each that feature group improvisations woven throughout the carefully crafted songs. The music defies category, existing in a dream-world somewhere between contemporary classical music and modern jazz. “Chamber improvisation, song, poetry, sprechstimme and beautiful compositions. The musical empathy is obvious.” - Mark Helias 2020

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
