Tyler Greenfield

Tyler Greenfield is a recording artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Jersey City, NJ. He was raised with a love for music from an early age, studying classical piano throughout his childhood under the guidance of his grandmother, pianist, and teacher Ruth Greenfield. It wasn’t until taking a break from piano altogether did he rediscover it with a newfound appreciation, spurring a mostly self-taught foray into jazz, studying favorites such as Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans.

Although he considers piano his “first love,” Tyler has also been involved in the local gypsy jazz scene, studying with renowned guitarist Stephane Wrembel.

As a producer, Tyler has found a home in the world between jazz and hip hop, influenced by the likes of J Dilla, Flying Lotus and Freddie Joachim. In 2013, iStandard awarded him a perfect score in their annual NYC producer competition, noting his versatility.

In 2014, Tyler began his journey into the latin jazz community, becoming acquainted with several Cuban musicians in New York. From these friendships, Tyler embarked on his debut album Sunday Bolero, including arrangements of classic boleros and featuring the acclaimed Cuban singer Xiomara Laugart.

Tyler has attended master classes with the great jazz pianist Barry Harris, whom he credits for helping broaden his harmonic understanding and love for music.

He explores other mediums as well—as part of a challenging upcoming project, Tyler has gathered audio and video recordings from his travels: including Dominican Republic, Cuba, Spain, France, Germany, Chile, Israel, to use in an interactive installation promoting world peace. Tyler runs Bim Bom Studios, which he co-founded as an umbrella brand for all creative projects.

Greenfield hails from New Jersey, where he is the founder of Bim Bom Studios. A serious pianist whose minimalist technique is ideal for this setting, he also brought ...

Getting International Reviews & Airplay Available Now! Vinyl Warmth Again! “Tyler Greenfield has both the taste and good sense in abundance, and we could count ourselves lucky to hear nowadays a performance of Cuban repertoire that is unselfconscious and without posturing. Listening to any music that is this natural is refreshing. It is unmatched in the manner of its dallying romance, in its fretful pacing, outright grief and elation. Much of the inner movements of the bolero are played under ...

Following a love for Latin music, Tyler Greenfield connected with an array of Cuban musicians in New York, including the acclaimed Cuban singer Xiomara Laugart. The album features Laugart on classic boleros including “Nosotros" and “Sabor a Mi". Xiomara was a vocalist in the Grammy-nominated group Yerba Buena. Aside from Laugart's presence, Sunday Bolero provides the masterful rhythms of percussionist Gabriel “Chinchilita" Machado and bassist Jorge Bringas.
