Album Description
Anna Maria Jopek & Branford Marsalis - Ulotne / Elusive (special edition 2CD) "For the love of Branford's talent (whom I discovered as a teenager on Sting's albums), for the love of Polish traditional music, out of passion for meetings at the crossroads of cultures and styles, out of desire to record among those whom I love and admire," this is how AMJ succinctly comments on her inspirations behind the music on "Elusive". The music from the album "Ulotne / Elusive", performed together with Branford Marsalis, escapes classification of music styles and broadly interprets Slavic motifs in scales, poetics and moods. Jopek's music is strongly inspired by traditional themes or even derived from them ("W Polu Lipeńka / A Linden in a Field", "To i hola / Hola Hola La", "W Kadzidlańskim Boru / In the Kadzidło Forest"). The song "Pożegnanie z Marią / A Farewell to Maria", performed and recorded by the artists two years ago and released now on the new album, is a tribute to Tomasz Stańko. "Ulotne" also features other stellar musicians: Krzysztof Herdzin (who arranged and conducted most tracks), Mino Cinelu, Maria Pomianowska, Robert Kubiszyn, Pedro Nazaruk, Marcin Wasilewski, and Atom String Quartet.
