Vent Nouveau

Some of the finest wind and brass players in the New York area have come together to form a new ensemble that brings the best music for winds, brass, and percussion to all sorts of great places. Vent Nouveau is a collective of musicians dedicated to bringing attention to the wide variety of underperformed repertoire for winds and brass and is configurable to adapt to the wealth of repertoire available. A relatively new ensemble (formed in 2016), individual members bring abundant experience to the group. All well versed in chamber music and wind repertoire, members of the ensemble have performed chamber music with musicians from the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, American Wind Symphony, Dallas Wind Symphony, and the West Point Band, to name a few. The ensemble has been part of concert series in the New York area, from Manhattan to the Berkshires. In an effort to expand the repertoire for winds and bring attention to inequality in classical music programming, Vent Nouveau has self-produced two concerts celebrating the music of non-cisgender male composers. In this endeavor, Vent Nouveau has premiered nine works by emerging and established composers, and is the recipient of a performance grant from New York Women Composers, who partially funded a 2018 concert in collaboration with Compass New Music series. Vent Nouveau has also been part of two calls for scores, selecting 14 works from over 250 submissions by living non-cisgender male composers. Recognizing our roots as music students in high school band and excited to share the repertoire with the next generation, Vent Nouveau is the recipient of a grant from Howland Chamber Music Circle, to serve as artists-in-residence at Beacon High School in 2018.
