Born in France, Vincent Thekal is an eclectic musician and band leader, in different musical situations. He studied classical music and jazz at Metz Music Conservatory with Hubert Prati and Eric Barret, after both degrees, he continues with Steve Houven in Brussels. Developping a personnal approach on the saxophone, influenced by the great past masters (Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk to name just three of them), Vincent Thekal got one foot in the tradition and one in the present. He played with Bob Mover, David Bryant, Jérôme Sabbagh, Godwin Louis, Emil Spanyi, Dre Pallemaerts, Bo Van Der Werf, Fabian Fiorini, Jean Louis Rassinfosse..
Few tenors in the 21st century have captured the expanse between beauty and complexity quite like Thekal and his powerful trio on this exceptional set. —Ron Hart in DownBeat Magazine, october 2018, about Origami, featuring Franck Agulhon and Alex Gilson (Hypnote Records)
