Will Goble Will Goble

Hailing from Durham, NC and beginning his musical career in communities rich with mentorship, Will Goble is steadily carving out a unique space for himself as a bassist, composer, bandleader, and educator.

Will became interested in Jazz and related art forms after effectively growing up within the creative music scene that still thrives around the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area in North Carolina. Upon departing Durham for Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL in the early 2000s, Will quickly flourished under the tutelage of bassist Rodney Jordan and famed pianist Marcus Roberts. His relationship with Roberts extended onto the bandstand as Marcus invited Will to perform with his trio on a number of performances through the years. Through Roberts, Will met drummer and vibraphonist Jason Marsalis, eventually joining Jason’s quartet in 2008. He can be heard on three of Jason’s most recent studio releases, Music Update (2009), In a World of Mallets, (2013), and The 21st Century Trad Band (2014).

Upon relocating once again, this time to Atlanta, GA, Will set about documenting his work as a bandleader. His first album, Some Stories Tells No Lies (2012), features his own trio (drummer Dave Potter and Pianist Austin Johnson) joined by trumpeter Marcus Printup and saxophonist Chad Eby. His second album, “Consider The Blues” will be released in May 2016 on OA2 Records (Origin Arts)

”This bass playing extended musical family member of the Marsalis clan shows he's not just another white boy with the blues. Using blues changes as his starting point and adding the jazz from there with other of his Marsalis band mates, Goble feels free to push creative envelopes to let the vibe wail. A solid session that plays with feeling and spirit, Goble shows he has great ear/hand/brain co-ordination in executing his vision here. Tasty stuff any jazzbo will feel at home with, whether he thinks he's in a bluesy mood or not. Well done.” —Chris Spector, Midwest Review

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
