William Evans

Jazz pianist William Evans was born in Detroit. He started out playing in the church and later studied under trumpet player Marcus Belgrave. He went on to work in Detroit with local greats Roy Brooks, Robert Hurst and Tami Tabbal. Evans toured with pop star Mary Wilson, formerly of The Supremes.

In the mid-1980s Evans performed with Dizzy Gillespie and Jimmy Witherspoon

Currently, Evans divides his time between Basel Switzerland, where he is a longtime faculty member at the Swiss Jazz School, and St. Petersburg, FL where he maintains a residence. While in Florida, Evans works with drummer/vocalist Patricia Dean at various venues on the southwest coast.
