Zubin Edalji

A finalist in the 2015 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition and the 2013 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Zubin Edalji is an ambitious and versatile trumpet player, composer, and teacher based in Chicago.

Zubin has been mentored by some of the world's greatest musicians such as Tito Carrillo, Ralph Alessi, Laurie Frink, Brian Lynch, and Kenny Werner. His teachers played an integral part in developing his musicianship — evident through his trumpet sound, original compositions, and arrangements. Zubin has been honored to perform at iconic venues like the Blue Note (New York), the Jazz Gallery (New York), the Blue Frog (Mumbai), and at Chicago clubs like Andy's, Jazz Showcase, Green Mill, and Fulton St. Collective. He has also played on the stages of international festivals like the Siena Jazz Festival, the Matera Jazz Festival, the Elba Jazz Festival, and the Chicago Jazz Festival.

In 2010, Zubin was one of few trumpet players picked to participate in the Banff Jazz and Creative Music Residency under the direction of the trumpeter Dave Douglas.

Zubin is a graduate of the jazz programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Doctor of Musical Arts), and New York University (Master of Music). He is an active and passionate educator, and has had the opportunity to teach and perform at a number of Illinois high schools and universities through clinics and masterclasses.

Zubin hopes that somewhere during the course of his life, his music will bring peace and swing to people.
